Beverly Conyers Strickland

Beverly Conyers Strickland (1927-2022), age 95, peacefully passed away on 14 September 2022 surrounded by her family in Salt Lake City. Born Beverly Jane Conyers on 6 February 1927, she was the only child to Ralph and Nettie (Greene) Conyers in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1951, after graduating from the University of Rhode Island, she began her life’s adventures driving across the country to Los Angeles to become a schoolteacher. Beverly was married to Richard Cary Strickland in 1954 in Los Angeles. In 1955, Beverly and Richard moved to Europe to work in the US Department of Defense’s school system where they lived until 1992 in Spain, Germany, and England. Beverly was an elementary school teacher and librarian and to this day is remembered fondly by her former students. With her husband and children, she led a life of adventure traveling throughout the world to almost a hundred countries. She will be remembered as a positive and shining character in the numerous communities she lived. She was a woman of exceptional intelligence and ingenuity, fixing grandfather clocks, replacing belts on dryers, dominating scrabble games, and most famous for her apple pie. Beverly was the pillar of strength in the Strickland family and will always remain in our hearts and a guide on how to move through life with grace and respect for others. Her mantras were frequent and will continue to be whispered into the ears of her children and grandchildren. We will miss her greatly, but we are honored to have had her in our lives for as long as we did. We will "Carry On" and "Mind the Gap" but most importantly we will "Make the most of every moment" because "Life is shorter than you think" Beverly was preceded in her death by her parents and loving lifelong partner and husband Richard. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and David Vangeison of Park City; her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew Strickland and Tulsi, of Eugene, Oregon; her son John Strickland of Tallahassee, Florida; granddaughters Alexandria Vangeison of Moab, Utah, Victoria Vangeison of Phoenix, Arizona and Lily Strickland of Portland, Oregon; and grandson Richard Ellis Strickland of Tallahassee, Florida. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at The Ridge Foothill Senior Living Apartments in Salt Lake City for their attentiveness and loving care. The funeral will be a private ceremony with only close family members present.
