BILLIE NEWTON BURKE, 1929-2024 long-time resident of West Valley City passed away at home on May 23. He was the son of Thomas E. Burke and Virginia Leah (Newton) Burke.
He worked at Kennecott Power Plant for 47 years and retired as a Superintendent. He graduated from Cyprus High School, Class of 1947 and attended the University of Utah. He was always a University of Utah supporter and regularly sang the school song. He married Shirley Elizabeth (Shields) Burke and raised their family in the Hunter area for more than 70+ years. He was quite the green thumb. In his garden he grew tomatoes, corn, cucumbers and melons that he shared with family, friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Hunter Lions Club and then a member of the Coalville Lions Club. He and mom loved fishing at Lake Powell, Brownlee Reservoir and Alaska. He travelled with mom to Ireland, the Panama Canal, Hawaii and climbed Machu Picchu at 70 years old. He also enjoyed Chalk Creek at hunting time. He was a long-standing donor to some of his favorite charities, Primary Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House and, the Moran Eye Center.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Thomas E. Burke and Virginia Leah Burke, his wife, Shirley Elizabeth Burke; and his son, William (Billie) Newton Burke.
Survived by, his son Robert Michael Burke and his wife Linda (Leslie) Burke; his daughter Dorethea (Burke) Barron and her husband James Barron; his daughter Virginia (Burke) Fish; his daughter Elizabeth (Burke) Ketcher, and his son Ralph Burke. 12 Grandchildren 25+ Great Grandchildren
