Fred Arnold Crook passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, surrounded by family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Fred was born on November 1, 1946, to Newell Henry Crook and Mary Ellen Matthews in Phoenix, Arizona. When he was four years old, his family moved to Freedom, Wyoming, to work on the family farm.
Fred attended Star Valley High School, where he wrestled and played football, graduating in 1965. After high school, he guided hunting trips and earned money spraying trees. From 1965–1967, he served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Alaskan-Canadian Mission. After his missionary service, he attended Ricks College, where he was a two-sport athlete in wrestling and football. While at Ricks, he met Angela Louise Bevan in their student ward, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 6, 1970. They settled in West Jordan and welcomed eight children. They often opened their home to friends in need of a helping hand. The house was full of people, fun, and love.
Fred worked in the construction field for many years. He was an exceptional welder, installed windows, and had many other skills. He loved to share details of the projects he worked on and the challenges he overcame. For the last 20 years of his career, he was employed by the Church.
Fred was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. He loved serving people and was always willing to lend a hand, a tool—or often both—to anyone in need. His willingness to help others blessed countless neighbors, friends, family members, and even strangers.
Fred is survived by his wife, Angela, and their eight children: Shawn (Jayne); Dustin (Deeanna); Rhonda (Curtis Johnson); Rochelle (Jesse Danley); Darla (Brian Locher); Clinton; Anna (Tyler Cole); and Jeremiah (Angela); 21 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Stan, Kerry, Ben, Weston, Meleta, and Nancy. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Skip, John, and Kelly.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Jordan Oaks 5th Ward, located at 9353 S Vista West Dr, West Jordan, UT. The family will receive visitors prior to the service from 10:00–10:45 AM. The services can be viewed HERE. For additional information about the services, please call or text (385) 484-8820.
We are grateful that Fred can now find joy in continuing to serve others. We will miss him dearly and look forward to being reunited. We love you!
