Van Mark Barney
Van Mark Barney
Lehi, Utah / Panguitch, Utah - Van Mark Barney, age 64, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 24, 2025, after experiencing heart failure.
He was born January 25, 1961 in Panguitch, Utah to Van Ernest Barney and LaRaine Lucille Sorenson. He married Darla Thayn Strange in Provo, Utah on May 28, 2010.
Mark was a wonderful, loving man who cherished every moment spent with his wife and family. He lived an extraordinary life and left an impression on everyone who crossed his path - family, friends, and anyone within earshot of his stories or jokes. He loved hunting, spending time in the mountains, and music - just a few of the things that brought him joy. His passion for hunting never wavered; no matter how he felt - sick, sore, or hurting - he still found the strength to do what he loved. He was a devoted husband with a selfless, servant heart that radiated his love in everything he did. His presence, strength, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We were all blessed to have him with us for as long as we did.
He is survived by his wife, Darla; mother, LaRaine; children/step children, Christina Barney, Brandon (Felicia) Barney, Jeffery (Samantha) Barney, David (Amanda) Strange, Jonathan (Steff) Strange, Nicholas (Jo) Strange and Casey Strange; sisters, Kathy Parkinson, Pam Smith and Mary Elizabeth Beckwith; brother, Robert Barney; twenty grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and our dog, Gizmo ‘Gizzy’.
He was preceded in death by his father, Van; siblings, Randy, Loretta and Regina; and other family members.
In honor of Mark’s wishes, there will be a party celebrating his life in the Panguitch mountains in June, 2026 (no memorial service).
