Matthew Lee Maez

Matthew Lee Maez, age 55, passed away on January 16, 2026, in Murray, Utah. He was born on February 27, 1970, and lived in Salt Lake City for much of his life.

Matthew is survived by his loving mother, Esther Black; his sisters, Roena Cabrera (Carlos) and Jamie Black; and his brother, Terry Black. He is also survived by his children: Marquita Maez, Alisha Maez, Latisha Maez, Marcell Maez, Jesse Maez, Angelica Keele, Andy Maez, Carlos Montano, Matthew Maez, Marcelino Maez and Gabriella Black and many cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his partner, Danna Valdez.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Maez and stepfather Terry Black.

Matthew was always there when you needed him. He loved history and was truly a jack of all trades. He was funny, quick-witted, and could make friends with anybody, leaving a lasting impression wherever he went. He enjoyed collecting unique items and treasured time spent with his family and friends. Matthew especially cherished time with his mother, and you could often find them together in Wendover enjoying life and making memories.
