Michael Andy Lucero

1962 - 2026
Michael Andy Lucero

Mike Lucero was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to so many. He was born on April 26, 1962, in Durango, Colorado where he loved fishing and camping with his brothers. He had a deep love for nature. Mike was a simple man and didn’t need much to make him happy, a hot cup of coffee in the morning, a cold beer after work, sports, and family. He loved all things NASCAR and got to drive in Ryan Newman’s car on an amazing trip that he won through work. He loved watching his favorite teams- the Broncos, Lakers, and Duke. But most of all he loved his family and he especially loved being a grandpa aka, Papa Moosey. You could find Papa Moosey chasing his grandkids in the backyard, jumping on the trampoline or playing in the water when they were little. He would always play with them and give them whatever they wanted.

Mike had a big heart and loved animals. Over the years, he and his wife fostered and owned many pets. When he crossed over, he was greeted by his beloved fur babies, Fred, Moosey, Girla, Lokai, Cami, Addie, Fella and more. He was a kind person and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it- even if he didn’t like you. He loved a good, rare steak and pushing the limits on a jet ski.

Mike fought a long, hard 4-year battle with pancreatic cancer with his wife by his side every step of the way. That four-year time span was filled with fear, anxiety, scans, procedures, doctors, disappointments, happiness, hope, hospital stays, clinical trials, remission, anger, bargaining, love, grief, and in the end, the hardest thing we all faced was reality. Reality that no matter how hard you fight, no matter how many people love and need you, cancer doesn’t care.

Mike passed away January 18, 2026, in his home in West Jordan, Utah, with his wife and daughter by his side. He leaves behind so many who love him and we know we will see him again. Mike is survived by his wife, Lorrie Lucero, daughter Nicole Nelson, son-in-law Scott Nelson, his grandkids, Madison and Deacon, his sweet dog, Bangy, mother Isabel Lucero and brother Lee.

But, as we move forward, we know that he would want us to be happy and to live life. So, with that, we will crack open a cold one, put our feet up, and hope that the Broncos take the 2026 Super Bowl. Mike, Papa Moosey, Dad… we love you so much. We will see you soon.
