Cary C. Dunn

1955 - 2026
Cary C. Dunn

Cary C. Dunn passed away at age 70 in Salt Lake City on March 10, 2026, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer . He is survived by his wife Marilee (Chisholm) Dunn, children Kim (Dunn) O’Neill and Prescott Dunn. He adored his son-in-law’s, Andrew O’Neill and Sam Leonhart. His grandchildren Bernard and Lillian O’Neill were the light of his life.

He graduated from the University of Utah where he was a Beta Theta Pi for life and received his Masters of Architecture from Virginia Tech. He loved working with Construction Management Consultants and made lasting friends at one of his last projects, Waterford School in Sandy. Cary was a superfan of U of U football and basketball holding season tickets over 35+ years. One passion was back packing through the Wind Rivers each summer with a close circle of friends. He waited impatiently each fall for the arrival of snow so he could ski with the “Lemmings” at Solitude Ski Resort. He’ll always be known as “Asteroid” to them. And he rarely missed an evening of poker with his high school friends. His creativity flowed through his photography of nature and his travels. Nearly always whistling or tapping out the beat of the song, music was ever in the air.

Cary was preceded in death by his father, W. Prescott Dunn Jr and uncle, James R. Dunn. His mother, Marian C. Dunn lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Should you feel the pull, in lieu of flowers, please donate to Odyssey House of Utah where Cary served on the board since 1991. Odysseyhouse.org/donate
