Sandra (Sandy) Karen Simpson
July 12, 1940 - March 31, 2026
Sandy Simpson, 85, of Sandy, Utah passed away on March 31, 2026. She was a woman of straight talk high standards, yet always quick to nurture and teach us to be our best self.
She loved her family and husband, Sam, fiercely. They spent their years traveling and exploring together, often hiking and camping all around Utah and the west. You could count on them to be in a constant back-and-forth; he’d give her some sass, and she would give it right back to him without missing a beat.
Mom (Sandy) was known for her incredible work ethic and her blunt honesty. Her favorite rule was: "I can’t always believe what you say, but I can always believe what you do." She lived those words throughout her life but especially during a 19-year illness that took her mobility but never touched her mental toughness or her signature sassiness. Throughout those long years, she was cared for at home by her husband, Samuel Simpson, whose fierce devotion matched her own. Her son, Gary Simpson, was also a constant and huge help, ensuring she was never alone in her fight.
She was a "second mom" to her children’s friends; her house was always open, but if you got out of line, you could expect a swift talking to. It was her way of looking out for you. To her, love wasn't just a feeling—it was something you did for people.
When the end came, it was painful but undeniably beautiful. She was surrounded by the people she loved most: her husband, her daughter, her son, her granddaughter, and her son-in-law. She left this world exactly as she lived in it—surrounded by family.
She is survived by her husband, Sam Simpson; her children, Kim Simpson-Batey (Tom), Gary Simpson; her granddaughter, Sierra Batey (Alan); her grandson, Thomas (Jonna) and her crazy but lovable dog, Bella, who provided so much joy in her final years. She is finally mobile again, finally free, and almost certainly getting the last word in with those who went before her.
A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held in the near future. A special thanks to CNS Hospice and the wonderful staff that took care of her (and the family), including Rebecca, Janessa, Sandy and others.
