Christine A. Oppenhein lost her battle with cancer on April 17, 2026.

Chris was born on September 27, 1960 in Owyhee, Nevada to Clifton Oppenhein and Charlotte Dick.

Chris grew up in Elko Nevada, but attended Stewart Indian School in Carson City, Nevada and graduated in 1978.

Over the years, she worked for Elko Band and Southern Bands Health Center. She married Robert Vega in June of 2004.

Family was so important to Chris. She loved having barbecues and getting together for the holidays. She loved her grandkids very much. Her and Robert were HUGE Raiders fans!

Chris is survived by her daughter Krystal, son Justin (Erika), her five grandkids, Tyler, Alyceson, Ethyn, Caden and Leah, brothers Calvin Jim, Harvey Jim and Lindsey Oppenhein, sisters Renee Jim Gonzales (Raymond) and Charlene (Bill) Oppenhein, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Vega, dad Clifton Oppenhein, mom, Charlotte Dick Oppenhein, brothers, Stevie Jim, Gary Jim, Roy Jim, and Lloyd Oppenhein, sister Nancy Decker, and nephew Gary Miller.

Her celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 12 o’clock noon at the Elko Colony Health and Wellness Center in Elko, Nevada.
