Linda Lee Smith

1945 - 2026
Linda Lee Smith

Linda Lee Smith, 81, of Chubbuck, Idaho, passed away April 15, 2026, from heart failure. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. While we are going to miss her greatly, we are thankful that she is reunited with her husband, Michael after only a short six-month separation.

Linda was born on January 20, 1945, in American Fork, Utah, to Catherine Lola Boothe (Hansen) and Leland Harmon Boothe. She was the oldest of four children: Craig, Christine, and Kayleen.

Linda grew up mainly in Taylorsville, Utah. She loved her family and was an excellent big sister helping raise and care for her younger siblings. She graduated from Granger High and earned her teaching degree at Weber State College.

Linda went on to serve a 27-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Santiago, Chile and always spoke of her time serving with love and pride. She loved to practice her Spanish with people any chance she had, even at the end of her days, regardless of their ethnicity or native language. Linda truly loved the gospel. She was a faithful member of the church serving wherever she was asked. A great example of the Savior, serving in small ways to those around her.

After serving her mission, she moved to California to teach school and met her husband, Michael Smith. They married February 18, 1975, in the Provo Temple and built their family in Chubbuck, Idaho. They loved their home and rarely left. Linda was extremely industrious. She would sew blankets and clothes and can the food Mike would grow in their garden.

Linda taught the fourth grade at Groveland Elementary for over 15 years. She enjoyed teaching and loved all of her students. She especially enjoyed teaching fourth grade because the kids at that age would still look at her as a mom or grandma and would often give her hugs.

Linda loved to create. She had many hobbies over the years, including tole painting, sewing, cooking, and jewelry making. If she wasn’t creating, she was in her chair reading and snacking on chocolate.

Linda found her greatest joys and fulfillment with her family. She especially loved being a grandmother. She was happiest with a grandbaby on her lap sneaking them bites of ice cream.

We miss her already.

Linda is survived by her children, Jake Smith (Christy), Jed Smith (Valerie), Adam Smith (Elizabeth), Anna Dunn (David) and former daughter-in-law, Carolyn Whetten Smith; her grandchildren, Jett, Ashlee, Luke, Thomas, Leland, Lola, Hyrum, Brooklyn, Cole, Samuel, Evelyn, Ryan, Chloe, Henry, and Nolan. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Michael.

Despite the many health challenges she faced at the end of her life, including dementia, she was always gracious and kind, a wonderful example of what it means to patiently endure to the end. Though Linda said it sincerely and often, we’d like to echo her gratitude for the team at Elevation Hospice, the staff at Pemberly, and her sister Kay for the loving care she received throughout the last few years.

We invite you to celebrate and honor Linda on May 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 13979 Siphon Road in Chubbuck, Idaho. We will serve some of her favorite chocolate treats following the funeral service.
