Sue Marie Joiner

Sue Marie Joiner, 76, passed away on April 17, 2026 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Sue was born on May 21, 1949, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Louis Sehy and Barbara Sehy. She was deeply involved in her community throughout her life, but the roles she loved most were the many years she proudly served with the Mayer Arizona Fire Department as a firefighter, EMT, and Battalion Chief. She worked at Valley Lanes and Bonwood Bowl respectively in Salt Lake City. She was a league bowler in many bowling leagues in both Arizona and Utah. Sue cultivated many lasting friendships throughout her life and cared deeply for others and always went out of her way to make people feel welcome and important.

Sue married her best friend, Tom Joiner, on March 24, 1978. Together they raised their children and traveled the entire continental United States on their motorcycle. They shared a lifetime of adventure and companionship. She deeply loved her children and grandchildren. Her family will fondly remember the numerous times she “told ya so”—and more often than not, she was right.

She will be missed by so many, but she will never be forgotten.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Joiner; her daughter, Andrea Taylor (Jeff Taylor); her son, Bryan Olague; her stepdaughter, Charis Joiner; her sisters, Becky Appenfeldt and Linda Sehy, stepsister Julie Fenner, stepbrother, Mark Coates, many nieces and nephews and many grandchildren, including Brandon, Christopher, Chance, Ashley, and Adriana, as well as many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Sehy and Dave Coates, Barbara Coates, her son Todd Randall, her sister August Ruyle and brother Tony Sehy.”
