Kay H. Martinez

1936 - 2026
Kay H. Martinez

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to so many, Kay H. Martinez, 89, of Brigham City, Utah, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at her daughter’s home surrounded by family.

Kay was born on October 27, 1936, in Blanca, Colorado, to Charles and Mary Montoya. Raised with strong family values and a deep love for the Lord, Kay carried compassion, faith, and kindness throughout her life. She spoke openly about her beliefs and lived them daily through the love and care she showed to others. As the oldest child in a large family, she lovingly helped her mother care for her younger siblings, developing the nurturing spirit and strength that would define her throughout her life.

Nearly 70 years ago, Kay made Brigham City, Utah her home, where she built a life centered around family, hard work, and kindness. She was a devoted single mother and grandmother who found joy in caring for others. Cleaning was not only something she took pride in personally, but also became a meaningful part of her career. Kay worked for many years at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, where she formed lasting friendships and especially loved caring for the elderly residents who held a special place in her heart. She retired 24 years ago, leaving behind many cherished memories and friendships.

Kay is survived by her three children: Mark Vigil of Titusville, Florida; Wayne (Pat) Vigil of Brigham City, Utah; and Wanda (Don) Edwards of Farr West, Utah. She also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Paul (Celeste) Vigil, Toni Olsen, Jacqueline (Jeff) Barkelew, Jessica (Kyle) Tisi, Jamie Vigil, and Hudson Edwards. In addition, she was blessed with many great-grandchildren whom she adored deeply. She is also survived by her siblings David Montoya, Maryann Bechtel, and Linda Jaramillo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Martinez; her parents, Charles and Mary Montoya; her siblings Albert, Lena, Marlene, Nadine, Dennis, and her infant twin brothers; her daughter-in-law, Pam Vigil; and her grandson, Mark Jr. Vigil.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Smith Family Park. Family and friends are invited to join for a luncheon and an afternoon of sharing memories as we honor and celebrate the life of our dearly missed mother and grandmother.
