Douglas Franklin Rydalch
Douglas Franklin Rydalch, age 82, passed away peacefully the morning of Thursday June 4, 2026, in Salt Lake City, UT. Doug was born August 8, 1943, in Shreveport, LA to Douglas Franklin Crewell and Cecile Brevelle. After graduating from Granger High School in 1961 Doug joined the Navy and served till 1964. He also served in the Air National Guard and the Navy Reserve.
Doug married Joan Klitgaard September 3, 1976 and together they raised eight wonderful children; Eric, Raynee, Doug, Amy, Jason, Aaron, Tracey, and Dustin.
After returning from the Navy. Doug was a mechanic for Thompson Flying Service before dedicating the next 30 years as an Equipment Specialist at Hill Air Force Base working on F-4 aircraft, the F-16 TCG program, and accident investigations that took him all over the world. His work also provided the opportunity for his family to live in Germany for 3 years, an experience that created lasting memories. After his retirement he went to work for Southwest Airlines as a Reservation Specialist for 9 years.
During his lifetime he was an active blood donor. Donating 61 gallons of blood. Earning a place on the Celebration of Life Wall at the Salt Lake City Library.
Doug was happiest when coaching/watching all kind of sports. His love for sports carried him into coaching which he did for his sons for 17 years. He was a Crimson Club season ticket holder for the Utah Utes Football team for 30 years, Go Utes! He also loved going to Jazz games and cheering on his beloved 49er's.
Doug enjoyed camping, four wheeling, golfing, and fishing. He was a "pro" bowler up until the end (if you were to have asked him).
He was always down for a good action movie or country concert.
He had a strong unwavering sense of humor all the way up until the end. Knowing how to make a whole room break into laughter.
Doug is survived by his wife Joan; his siblings, Rick, Kim, Nola, Tony, Lynn, Ruby, and Wallice; and his children, Eric, Raynee, Doug, Amy, Jason, Tracey, and Dustin. 20 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, his siblings Nowell, Mike, and Kathy, his son Aaron, and 3 grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Foxboro Stake Center, 954 W 1100 N, North Salt Lake, UT 84054. Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 2 PM.
