Miguel Angel Sarabia
Miguel Angel Sarabia passed away on August 27, 2026, at 36 years old.
Miguel was the oldest of his siblings, and he was very proud of it. He made sure none of us ever forgot that he was the big brother. He looked out for us, protected us, made us proud, and somehow ended up doing the same thing for our friends, the neighborhood kids we grew up with, and so many other people throughout his life.
Miguel was born with spina bifida and spent his life in a wheelchair, but that was never what defined him. Miguel was just Miguel. He went where he wanted to go, did what he wanted to do, made friends everywhere he went, and somehow seemed to know people all over Salt Lake. He was always out mobbing around, and if you knew him, you knew exactly what that meant.
One of our favorite things about Miguel was that somehow, despite being the one who couldn’t walk, he was also the one who taught his siblings how to swim. We spent so many summers at Grandma’s pool. That dude could swim, and he was faster than most of us.
He loved being outside, summertime, camping whenever he could, playing basketball, and spending time with his family. He was a Grandma’s boy through and through and loved being at our grandparents’ house.
And then there was music. Miguel loved music, especially rap, and especially Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Over the years, he got to meet Ice Cube, Bone Thugs, and Snoop Dogg. He even recorded his own rap song in a studio back in the day. Somehow, at almost every concert he went to, security would spot Miguel and get him right up front. And honestly, that was exactly where he belonged.
Miguel was also a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan and made sure everyone around him knew it. He was running his mouth and so happy when the Eagles won the Super Bowl, and we are so happy he got to see his team take home the Super Bowl last year.
Miguel loved his nieces and nephews fiercely, and calling them by their names was just not his thing. They were usually greeted with a loud, “NEPHEWWWW!” or “NIECE!” He was Uncle “Giguel” or “Guncle,” and it became one of those little family memories we will always smile about.
Miguel had a lot of friends and a lot of people who loved him and looked out for him. And that was because he was that person for so many other people. He was funny, happy, good-hearted, and full of love.
Recently, Miguel was extremely proud of getting into a new place and a fresh start. He was excited about what was ahead, and loved sharing that part of his life with his longtime girlfriend, Jasmine. He loved her and was looking forward to the life and memories they still had ahead of them. Knowing that he was proud of where his life was going means more to our family than we can really put into words.
Miguel was our brother, Uncle Giguel, or “Guncle,” a son, a grandson, a friend, and so much more to so many people. He touched more lives than he probably ever realized.
We will miss his laugh. We will miss his running his mouth. We will miss hearing “NEPHEWWWW” yelled across the room. We will miss the way he looked out for everyone. We will miss seeing him out and about, doing his thing.
Most of all, we will just miss Miguel.
Miguel was preceded in death by his mother, Melanie Carry Moccasin; his grandpa, Vincent “Vince” Carry Moccasin; his uncle, Vince “Jr.” Carry Moccasin; and his cousin, Lane Carry Moccasin.
He is survived by his pops, Brian Holt; stepdad, Louis Martinez; his siblings, Audra Carry Moccasin, Anthony Holt, Angel Rose, Miriam Martinez, Mateo Holt, Maximus Martinez, and Aria Holt; his longtime girlfriend, Jasmine Jim; his grandparents, Grandma Tommi and Leonardo Magdaleno; his nieces and nephews, Lucas, Elijah, Gabriel, and Adiah; and many others, including his aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
