Gayle Kay Mace
Gayle (Green) Mace
January 23, 1950 – September 24, 2026
Gayle has officially left the building. At the age of 76, Gayle decided she had read
enough breaking news, eaten enough fish and chips and Arby’s roast beef sandwiches,
and was ready to opt out of the next election cycle.
Known by friends and family for her radiant smile, contagious laugh, enormous heart,
and unmatched ability to listen, Gayle had a way of making you feel like everything was
going to be okay. She carried a calmness that made people feel safe, seen, and loved.
She spent her years mastering the art of being a fun grandma and was famously adored
by every dog that crossed her path. She loved taking the grandkids to feed the llamas
and ducks, reading books to them, and turning ordinary days into cherished memories.
She was the queen of birthday greeting cards — she never missed a birthday. Gayle
loved her family deeply and would do anything for them.
Gayle was a master at keeping her houseplants alive and clearing arcades for all of
their tickets. Most people didn’t know she was also a talented poet. She even made up
her own dialect, which some people could understand. Her creativity, humor, and gentle
spirit showed up in everything she touched.
Gayle leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love. Her family will
miss her deeply, but they take comfort in knowing she is somewhere peaceful, probably
with a dog on her lap, a thriving plant nearby, and a can of Vanilla Coke in hand.
Survived by husband and partner-in-crime, Scott; her son Cory and his wife Cindy
Wardell; her daughter Jessica and her husband Joe Lopez; her son Billy Klemenson
and his partner Sam Nelson; and her son Shad and his wife Nu Klemetson;
stepdaughter Kristy and her husband Sam Kuhn. She is also survived by twelve
grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren, and one more greatgrandchild on the way; her
brother Kip and his wife Pepi Green, sister in laws Linda McComb, and Sheri Stafford,
several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her dad, mom, sisters Linda, Leah and Gina, stepson Steve,
niece Monica, and nephew Trenton.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday October 25th, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00
p.m., at West Main Studio – 1400 S Main Street, Salt Lake City.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do a kind act: go somewhere warm, take a
vacation, pet a dog, buy a round for a stranger, vote, and tell your family you love them.
