Ginny Mageras
1950-2026

Our beautiful mom passed away on October 26, 2026, with her kids and grandkids by her side.

Virginia “Ginny” Mageras, 76, was born on March 3, 1950, and spent her entire life in Salt Lake City, Utah. First and foremost, she was our mom and Yiayia. Ginny was an independent spirit who built her life around her family, her 55-year career as a hairdresser, and the many relationships she formed along the way.

Raising four children as a single mother was a defining part of Ginny’s life. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest source of joy. She loved sharing their stories, pictures, and accomplishments with anyone who crossed her path. It didn’t matter if you were a friend or someone she’d just met; you were going to hear about her family.

She began her career as a hairdresser in 1971. Over the years, the salons where she worked became her second home. Her coworkers became like family. The women at J Loyola Salon, where she worked for more than a decade, became an especially important part of her life. Many of her clients also became lifelong friends.

Ginny will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, unmistakable style, and one-of-a-kind personality. Everything about her was uniquely her own. She was fiercely loyal to the people she loved. Never one for a crowd, she had a gift for making meaningful connections with people one-on-one. It’s a legacy many of us will carry forward.

We are deeply grateful to the J Loyola Salon community and the many friends who have reached out and shown up for us over the past few months. The love and support we received during our mom’s illness brought us comfort during an incredibly difficult time. We are so thankful for everyone who was there for her and for us.

Ginny is survived by her daughters, M’Lisa and Sarah; her sons, Josh and Jeremy; her daughters-in-law, Kim and Rachel; her nine grandchildren, Emerson, Elliott, Grace, Maggie, Cooper, Reese, Dylan, Mila, and Jack; and her brothers, Dan, Tom, and Richard.

She was preceded in death by her beautiful mother, Helen Toronto; her father, John Mageras; her sister, Nancy; and her best friend, Kathy Parker.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday November 22nd in The Orangerie at Red Butte Garden from 11am-1pm. 300 s Wakara Way, Salt Lake City, Utah.
